The Holiday Season is very close. For those who will celebrate Kwanzaa this year, you can get a jumpstart on your zawadis (gifts) for the family. That's right, we are having a sewing social to make headwraps, kufis, and bow ties for the loved ones. Super easy! Super fun! Bring your choice of fabric, sewing machine and supplies and let's all social out while making wonderful heart filled gifts for the ones we love.
Why make them you ask? Traditionally, Kwanzaa gifts are made with our hands from our heart. They are a labor of love. In addition, they are usually symbolic of the culture/heritage. Don't forget, there's plenty of beautiful African fabrics available at Pan-African Connection. (Call ahead a time to check inventory.)
To make this a true celebration as we prepare for Kwanzaa, we are asking everyone to bring a dish just like you would for the Kwanzaa Feast (Karamu). You can bring something like grandma would make, or even something from our African culture. So whip out your pots for some jollof rice, okra and greens maybe. Don't forget the hot water cornbread. Then there's yams and black-eyed peas. Ginger beer or good old iced tea. Deserts. Ummm...I can taste it now. (No pork please.)
Sign up today! and bring a friend!
Let's make it a Sewing Social we'll never forget!
