LECTURE: WASTED FOOD, HOW IT IMPACTS OUR COMMUNITY, AND HOW WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Lecturer Stephen Sturdivant is an environmental engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 6 office under the Sustainable Materials Management Program. Stephen has 2 years’ experience in construction and over 8 years’ experience in environmental engineering. He is an expert in electronics recycling and general materials management as well a strong advocate for minimizing greenhouse gas emissions through source reduction and environmental stewardship.

Sturdivant will visit Platt College-North Campus, to talk about the U.S. food waste crisis. He will hosts two lectures on the effects of wasted food and how each of us can make a difference to eliminate the environmental and economic impact of food waste.

The lecture coincides with Platt College’s new membership in the EPA’s “Food Recovery Challenge”. The college kicks off their challenge on Monday, October 2nd as they educate students, faculty, and staff to eliminate food wastes at home. The college’s goal this year is to reduce food waste by 10% in their restaurant, Chef di Domani, which is located off of West Memorial Road in Oklahoma City.
