At the end of the course, participants would be able to:

  • Determine the different types of competency assessment that best fits their company and current selection process.

Workshop Outline

Module 1 - Introduction to Competency Based Assessment

Discussing the Iceberg Competency Model, Five Factor Model and different techniques to assess competency (Talent Assessments, Structured Interviews, and Assessment Centers)

Module 2 - Introduction to Structured Interviews (Competency Based Interviewing)

Discussing on the key differences between traditional interviews and structured interviews to improve a selection process. What is a structured interview, how do I conduct one at my company, where can I easily find great competency dictionaries.

A key difference in this session is the use of well-researched competency frameworks which have been developed over 50 years. This is considered a ‘best practice’ as compared to the alternative of participants defining their own competency constructs and standards.

Case studies: Fortune 500 company selection process


Module 3 - Identifying Job Success

Profiling a job for the key competencies that will allow them to do the job (Threshold Competencies) and outperform during the job (Differentiating Competencies). Prior to conducting a structured interview, it is important to determine what competencies are needed in the role.

In this session we will explain and let participants experience different tools to identify the correct competencies including: Expert Judgement, Focus Groups, 360 degree Job Profiling.

BONUS Demonstration: Some big data techniques will be demonstrated such as Multivariate regression analysis, Linear optimization


Module 4 - Application of Structured Interview Techniques

Participants will use the knowledge they have gained in the previous sessions and apply it to conduct a real-life structured interviews based on the identified competencies.

Participants will be given Structured Interview Guides and Rater sheets based on researched and psychometrically valid questions.
