Speaker: Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum Collection at the University of California, Irvine

About the Lecture: "Impressionism and California Art, 1885 to 1930"

Stern will discuss Monet’s role in the development of French Impressionism and examine several American and California artists who lived or visited Giverny and their part in carrying the (is this Impressionist?) style back to the United States.

About the Speaker

Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum Collection at the University of California, Irvine, is a recognized authority on California Impressionism. Under his leadership the Irvine Museum has become nationally known for California Art and History with significant international exhibitions, books, lectures, articles and video documentaries. As a art historian Jean has extensive experience as an author, curator, lecturer, and teacher presenting over 250 lectures and judging nearly 100 art competitions. In 2017, Mr. Stern was awarded the prestigious Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture.
