Enjoy a free film screening and panel discussion of local advocates to discuss one of the biggest issues confronting Asheville- housing.

About this Event

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity and Children First/Communities in Schools and Success Equation will host a free screening of the documentary film Owned: A Tale of Two Americas at the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Asheville, Thursday October 17 at 7 pm. Watch the trailer here. The film will conclude at 8:25 and a panel discussion of local housing advocates will then take place.

Owned unravels the complicated, painful, and often disturbing history of housing policy in America, shifting perceptions about what the idea of home means

Across the nation 1 in 6 households spend half or more of their income on housing and right here in Buncombe County thousands struggle to afford a decent place to live. Owned presents an opportunity to learn about the history of American housing policy and how this affects our housing choices today. By coming together through film and a panel discussion, residents can engage in thoughtful and critical dialogue, consider housing issues and solutions, and learn how to get involved locally.
