Event description

Description

In this hands on workshop, educators will get to build their own Gel Electrophoresis boxes and use them to separate dyes found in candy based upon their size and charge using Bio-Rad's STEM Electrophoresis kit. These same boxes can be used to separate DNA. Free kits will go home with the first 10 people to sign up thanks to Laney College's BioManufacturing program!!

All of the teaching tools for this lab can be accessed here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lu0b8105539lb7b/AAATFK4s97pwO6y6smlMm1Dna?dl=0

Our host for the event is the Laney College BioManufacturing Program (http://www.laney.edu/wp/biomanufacturing). The program currently offers one-semester and two-semester certificates, as well as an A.S. degree. Over 90 graduates have found employment in the local biotech sector at companies like Genentech, Thermo Fisher, Impax Labs, Penumbra, BioMarin, and many more.

LaneyCollege's BioManufacting Program purchased some kits to give away at this event and UV lights, so there is a very high chance that you'll get to go home with something!!!

Room A237 can be found on the campus map below. Note that BART is just 2 blocks away!
