Free Bellydance Workshop
Sat, April 29, 2017, 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM CDT
Want to try a bellydance class? Come to Amira Dance Productions for a free 90-minute class that will introduce you to one of the world's oldest dance forms.
You'll move your body in ways you didn't think you could -- and have a lot of fun doing it! Grab some friends and make it a fun girls outing.
Wear comfortable clothes. Bellydance is generally done barefoot so no special shoes required. You may also wear ballet flats or other dance shoes.
Q: Is this workshop open to men?
A. While there are several fantastic male bellydancers, we limit our free workshop to women only, primarily because for many women learning to dance can be an intimidating experience. For men interested in bellydancing, give us a call at 316.210.1625 to discuss learning opportunities for you.
Q. Do I need prior dance experience?
A. No! What makes this workshop (and our studio classes) fun is that it is suitable for women of various ages, shapes and experience-levels. Our classes are meant to allow you to explore a fun and social way to get some moderate physical fitness and learn about another culture.
Q. Is this workshop suitable for young girls?
A. Absolutely! Girls in the cultures where many of our dances originate learn to dance at the same time they learn to walk. But to be respectful of the learning experiences of our students, we ask that girls 12 through 18 be accompanied by an adult for this workshop and our classes. It can be a fun bonding experience to take the class/workshop together, but we also have a parlor where you can wait and observe your young girl as she takes a class.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Comfortable exercise-type clothing. Bring a shawl or long, rectangular scarf, if you'd like, to wrap around your hips for more fun and flair. Generally most of our dances are done barefoot, or wear ballet slippers or other dance footwear, if you'd like.
Q. What else should I bring?
A. Consider bringing a water or other sports beverage to stay hydrated. Also, bring an attitude to have fun and learn! (We also sell bottles of water for 50 cents, if you forget your beverage.)
