Barracuda Taphouse & Grill AKA ‘Cuda in the Grove has been a pillar of society since…well, who are we kidding? It’s been the place to play beer pong, hook up and most importantly – get great craft beer. With 50 beers on tap and another 100 styles in bottles, it’s no wonder it’s the place in the Grove to grab a solid craft brew. But it’s also knows as a place where secrets are born. Like Vegas, the ‘Cuda has one simple unspoken rule. I would repeat it here, but like I said, the rule is unspoken – even unwritten. I myself as a UM coed made my way down to the ‘Cuda on many a night. My sorority sisters and I would saunter in not having any real plans and that’s when all the action really happened. The less we planned, the more interesting the night. I’ve asked some of the regulars why the ‘Cuda has this mysterious side to it and there are several theories. One theory is tied to its history as an old bank vault. Interesting, but not very exciting unless you are the American Pickers. The best explanation I heard was one from “Bill.” I agreed to call him Bill to protect his identity. Bill feels that over the years, the alcohol from all the spilled beer has chemically bonded with the pheromones released from the patrons. This compound has seeped into the walls. When the music is on, and the energy is right, it does something special. Something that can’t be explained. Something only experienced in person. I am not too sure how viable his explanation is, but it is poetic to say the least. I attribute it to a much simpler reason – lots of inebriated coeds. Regardless of which theory you subscribe to, secrets are born here. Another great secret will be launched this Monday Oct 10 with our final free beer tasting.
But much like the lore of the ‘Cuda, this tasting will remain a mystery. We won’t be releasing a theme or a beer list. Just know this will be the most epic free beer tasting of the year. And for the first time, in order to secure your spot, you need to register online at this EventBrite event. So register (it’s free) and we’ll see you there. And remember – keep it all to ourselves.
