FAMILY FUN, FOOD, AND A MORE EQUITABLE FUTURE!

This Storytime is a wonderful way for adults and children to get out of their comfort zone and engage in a new way of thinking about our diverse Community! We should be encouraging our children to extend themselves past what they know, to see deeper, and to make new friends without bias.

PRESENTED IN CONJUNCTION WITH

THE CARVER MUSEUM'S NEW EXHIBIT:

OUR PEOPLE--THE LIFE AND WORKS

OF AUTHOR ANGELA SHELF MEDEARIS

OUR PEOPLE EXHIBIT CLOSES: SATURDAY, 6/22/2019

Author, Angela Shelf Medearis has published more than 100 books for children of all ages, as well as 7-cookbooks for adults as THE KITCHEN DIVA! More than 12-million copies of her work have been sold in numerous languages world-wide. Her multifaceted career has included her being honored for her work at the White House and numerous awards for her books.

During 2018, Medearis donated several books, manuscripts, photographs, awards, and research papers to the Carver Museum which have been curated into a new exhibit titled OUR PEOPLE--THE LIFE AND WORKS OF AUTHOR ANGELA SHELF MEDEARIS.

Our People is an exhibition about literature—with a focus on the African American family experience--for young readers. The Exhibit features materials and manuscripts which shed light on Mrs. Medearis' creative and collaborative work process with her editors and illustrators; a display of her books and how the idea that sparked each title came about; personal photos, videos, and interactive reading.

Mrs. Medearis will also present a free HOW TO WRITE FOR CHILDREN workshop in conjunction with the African-American Book Festival in June. For more information, please contact the George Washington Museum and Cultural Center, 512-974-4926.
