Event description

Description

Participants will explore the world of Augmented Reality (AR). AR is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, AR uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it. In this session we will investigate AR’s relevance and significance in the K-12 context and experience. Additionally, we will use Google Maps as a collaboration tool that will be exported to a third party to include augmented reality viewing. Participants will gain hands-on experience by working together to build a custom map complete with images and annotation, then take it to the next level by viewing the map through an augmented reality app.

The presenter for this workshop is Dr. Micah Shippee. Micah is an out-of-the-box-doer, social studies teacher and technology trainer. He regularly explores ways to improve motivation in the classroom and leverages emergent technology to achieve educational goals.
