Per Scholas and Bronx Community College (BCC) are partnering to offer a new Cybersecurity and Networking course in which students earn an Associate degree and industry certifications leading to careers in cyber-ops fields. After completing two summers at Per Scholas, and two years at BCC, graduates will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed as a Cyber Operations Analyst.

OVERVIEW

ENROLL IN PER SCHOLAS AND EARN AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE AT BRONX COMMUNITY COLLEGE

This course equips you with the skills and knowledge to enter Cyber Security or related IT fields as a Cyber Operations Analyst, or similar IT and Cyber Security occupations.

WHAT THE COURSE IS

Per Scholas and Bronx Community College (BCC) are partnering to offer a new Cybersecurity and Networking course in which students earn an Associate degree and industry certifications leading to careers in cyber-ops or related IT fields. This course requires a two year commitment of study at BCC and at Per Scholas in the Bronx. Students are eligible to apply for financial aid as well as the CUNY ASAP/College Discovery programs to cover BCC tuition. Attendance at Per Scholas is tuition-free.

NOTE

This is a full time two year commitment. Students will take 6 week classes at Per Scholas during the summers, attending Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm. During the fall and spring semesters, students will attend classes at BCC following a course sequence leading to an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Cybersecurity & Networking in two years, or a Certificate/Advanced Certificate in Cybersecurity & Networking. Students in the program attend BCC and Per Scholas as a cohort, and have full access to Per Scholas career development and job placement services.

CURRICULUM

Cyber-security, Networking & Career Development

The program will start with an introductory certification at Per Scholas during the summer. In the fall and spring semesters, you will take courses at Bronx Community College while continuing to receive career development at Per Scholas. You will continue your studies at Per Scholas the following summer, and then finish up your Associate degree at Bronx Community College.

This program is full-time study - two summers at Per Scholas, four semesters at Bronx Community College. By the time you finish, you’ll have an Associate degree, industry-recognized certifications and be prepared for an entry-level job as a Cyber Operations Analyst or a related occupational field.

SCHEDULE

Over the summer, the course will meet Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 4:00PM from Monday, July 2nd through Friday, August 17th. During this time the course will include technical instruction and career development and you will earn your first certification.

In the fall and spring you will take coursework at Bronx Community College and return for Per Scholas for career development and business services. This is a new training track and as the sequence of courses are being finalized, the current overview is as follows:

  • Summer 2018 - Earn your CompTIA A+ certification and course credit at Per Scholas.
  • Fall 2018 - Earn undergraduate credits at BCC and participate in career development at Per Scholas
  • Spring 2019 - Earn undergraduate credits at BCC and participate in career development at Per Scholas
  • Summer 2019 - Earn a second industry recognized certification and course credit at Per Scholas.
  • Fall 2019 - Earn undergraduate credits at BCC and participate in career development at Per Scholas

Spring 2020 - complete your undergraduate credits at BCC and graduate with your Cybersecurity & Networking AAS; career development and job placement services through Per Scholas


Note: Each semester includes career development, financial coaching and business solutions services from Per Scholas.

    Our facilities always include modern classrooms; well-equipped training labs; and places to relax, socialize and study.

    YOUR OWN WORKSTATION

    You will work from your own lab-based computer workstation for the entire course. There, you’ll follow along in lectures and demonstrations, practice new skills, review course materials and measure how much you’ve learned.

    ADMISSIONS

    There is a Two Step Admissions Process

    ELIGIBILITY

    1: Candidates must be eligible for Per Scholas admission:

    • 18 years and older
    • High school graduate or high school equivalency
    • U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S
    • Interview and testing requirements

    2. Candidates must meet CUNY college readiness requirements based on SAT, ACT or NYS Regents test scores or CUNY Skills Assessment Test.

    PROCESS

    Applicants must be admitted at both Per Scholas and Bronx Community College

    Step 1: Complete Per Scholas admissions process:

    • Complete the online application
    • Attend an information session at Per Scholas where you will express interest in the BCC/Per Scholas Cybersecurity & Networking Partnership Program
    • Take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
    • One-on-One Interview
    • Panel Interview

    Step 2: Complete BCC admissions process:

    • Complete the CUNY application and pay the CUNY application fee ($65)
    • Attend an information session to learn how to apply for the FAFSA and BCC programs such as ASAP and College Discovery
    • If not exempt from placement due to Regents scores/SAT, take the CUNY placement test (Accuplacer) for math/reading and CATW for writing

    Additional Information about Per Scholas Admissions

    1. ONLINE APPLICATION

    Complete our online application to begin.

    Don't worry. This doesn't lock you in to a final commitment. In the following step you will get to ask questions and get the answers you need to determine if this is the right time for you to take this training.

    2. INFORMATION SESSION

    You will be invited to attend an in-person information session after you complete your online application. All of your questions will be addressed in the information session. The information and instructions to attend are provided after you submit your online application.

    There will be a separate information session hosted by Bronx Community College to learn about BCC admissions and financial aid. At this information session you will learn how to apply for the FAFSA and BCC programs such as ASAP and College Discovery.

    You will need to submit a separate application to CUNY to apply for this program.

    3. ENTRANCE EXAM

    If you decide that this Per Scholas and Bronx Community College program is right for you, you can take our entrance exam at your information session. Or you can return to take it at a later time.

    We use the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) as our entrance exam. To be admitted to Per Scholas, you must pass this test at a 10th grade level or higher. Find out more about the test and practice with sample questions here. We strongly encourage you study and practice in advance.

    If you don’t pass the TABE on your first try, you may be invited back to retest.

    To gain admission to this program at Bronx Community College, you are required to meet CUNY college readiness requirements based on SAT, ACT or NYS Regents test scores or through the CUNY Skills Assessment Test (Accuplacer) for math/reading and CATW for writing.

    4. INTERVIEWS

    If you meet the minimum TABE score requirements as well as all other eligibility requirements, we’ll schedule you for an interview to determine your fit for the course as well as get an understanding for any special accommodations needed to enroll and complete the course.

    During the interview, we’ll ask about your education, life experience and plans for the future.

    5. ENROLLMENT

    Once final decisions are made for admissions, you will be notified immediately. The course starts on Monday, July 2nd.

    We’ll put you in touch with Bronx Community College admissions team so that you can learn about admission to their program and how to apply for financial aid and BCC programs such as ASAP and College Discovery.

    There is no tuition charge for Per Scholas, but if you enroll in this program you will also need to apply to CUNY which is a $65 application fee. You will also be responsible for tuition at BCC or apply for financial aid.
