Event Details

Hoarding Disorder is a complex mental health condition recognized as a distinct psychiatric disorder.  Individuals with this disorder have a pathological attachment to their possessions, which is often more important to them than human relationships.

It is recommended that this workshop (Part I) be completed prior to attending the intermediate level workshop titled Hoarding Disorder: Diagnosis, Assessment, Treatment and Intervention (Part II.)

Part I     Hoarding Behavior: From Clutter to Chaos (registration and dinner from 4:30 pm- 5:00 pm) Program runs from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This introductory/intermediate level workshop on hoarding will address the DSM-V criteria for a diagnosis of hoarding disorder; what and why people hoard, and the distress that is caused by compulsive hoarding.  Consideration will be given to balancing the individual's right to self-determination with concern for public health and safety.  Lecture includes case vignettes for discussion.

Participants completing this morning program should be able to:

1) Identify criteria for diagnosing Hoarding Disorder (HD)

2) Describe informational processing deficits experienced by people with HD

3) Specify ways HD impacts psychosocial functioning
