Event description

Description

Freda Brown like many progressive women has been all but written out of Australian history books. Thanks to Dr Lisa Milner’s new book ‘Swimming Against the Tide – a biography of Freda Brown” the significant contributions Freda made to political life and activism in Australia and internationally are now on the public record.

A passionate believer in equality, Freda’s activities spanned setting up literacy schools in Cuba and Africa, touring Australia as a spokesperson for the Communist Party of Australia and working with Fidel Castro and Mikhail Gorbachev.

Freda’s great loves were her family and Bondi Beach. For many decades she combined these passions with her commitment to work for a fair and just world.

Read about Freda’s incredible life in this compelling biography.

Caroline Jones AO will launch “Swimming Against the Tide” at Bondi Pavilion at 3 pm on Saturday 7 October with Dr Lisa Milner and Freda's family. All welcome.

Books will be available for purchase at the event.
