For those arriving on Saturday, NEPPFA will host a reception in the courtyard of the Sturbridge Host Hotel. Light appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available. Mix and mingle poolside with framing friends.

8:30-10:00am - How To Create Great Framing DesignsInstructor - Tim Franer, CPF, CMG

This session will help you develop an eye for designs that your customers will love. Tim will explore the elements and relationship of textures, patterns and colors in frame design as they affect your choices of mouldings, fillets, mats, and how to put them all together to make a great presentation. You’ll gain insights into making the right choices and working with the limitations and variety available in today’s design elements – a necessity for framers who want to create winning frame designs. We will analyze more than 25 examples of good frame design to discover just what makes each one work. You’ll come away from this session with up-to-date techniques you can use to fill your customers’ personal needs while reflecting the latest trends in framing. Presentation to include detail explanation and photographic step by step process for the 2017 PPFA International “Open” competition winning piece. You will receive a copy of the entry application form describing each step in detail.


10:30-12:30pm - Shadowbox IInstructor - Jim Miller, MCPF

Innovative shadowbox enclosure designs are discussed, including instructions on how to build them. Whether the shadowbox is to be permanently closed, or designed for easy opening/re-closing, this class includes designs to do the job. Among the topics: visual composition, decorative features, preservation, structural considerations, fitting/finishing, hanging hardware, Gravity Groove, Slider, Slip-Over, Magnetic Closure, and The Acrylic Edge.

9:00-10:30am - ABCs of Picture Framing Session IInstructor - Harry Gaston, CPF

The first in a three-part series this 90-minute lecture will provide new framers and frame shop owners the essential basics to successfully operate a professional custom framing business. In this session, new framers will be introduced to the basics of moulding, matboard and glazing. We will focus on the myths and misconceptions and identify the differences it the many material options available to framers today.


11:00-12:30pm - ABCs of Picture Framing Session II Instructor - Harry Gaston, CPF

In this session, we will continue to build on the fundamentals for custom framing with a focus on the handling of artwork, appropriate mounting techniques for works on paper, textiles and objects. Framers will be introduced to many of the additional materials and techniques to address the variety of challenges they face each day.

1:30-3:00pm - ABCs of Picture Framing Session III Instructor - Harry Gaston, CPF

The third and final session in the ABCs of Picture Framing program. Framers and frame shop owners will be introduced to the business side of picture framing. Attendees will analyze a typical frame shop’s Profit & Loss Statement to evaluate the health of a business and develop the financial model for their own business. We will discuss how to manage Cost of Materials and maximize earnings through buying and pricing.

Join your fellow framer friends for an exciting night out. Take a chartered bus from the hotel to the bowling lanes. Attendees will get 2 hours of bowling and a bowling alley dinner of pizza, wings, and more. There will be a cash bar. This item is not included in the VIP or Sunday pass.

8:00-9:30am - Break Out Breakfast - A Series of Round Table Discussions – Cliff Wilson, MCPF

Enjoy a light breakfast while you join a group of your peers to discuss the many issues and challenges that face professional picture framers and small business owners today. Through a series of free flowing conversations you will share ideas and experiences with others.


10:00-12:00pm (Option A) - Fabric Wrapped Mat Workshop Instructor - Tim Franer, CPF, CMG

Fabric-wrapped mats and liners offer a surprisingly easy way to add a classic, upscale look to your framing. You will learn the basics of creating 4-ply, 8-ply, and reverse-bevel mats with the rich depth of color and texture that only fabric can provide. We will then move on to learn how to combine specialized mat cuts with fabric for distinctive mat designs. You will learn how to get professional results when wrapping liners, using both continuous wrap and wrapped corner methods. This is a limited hands-on workshop, and all attendees will leave with finished products.  Sorry, this class has sold out. No space is available.


10:00-12:00pm (Option B) - Package Pricing Instructor - Cliff Wilson, MCPF

Do you find that customers shy away from custom framing due to price concerns? Are you looking for an alternative to discounting? If so, then this is a session you can’t miss. Learn how to create a custom framing package you can offer immediately. This package pricing strategy will increase sales at greater margins with little or no cost to you. This program has already increased business for many frame shops and is a great way to make custom framing more attractive to new customers.

2:00-2:30pm - Meeting and Framing Competition IntroductionKimberley Breil, CPF

Our NEPPFA president will reveal the 2018 PPFA PRINT Competition piece and review the new process for competitors. We will also introduce the theme for the NEPPFA 2017 Framing competition to be judged in October 2017


2:30-4:30pm - Needle Art Framing A-Z Instructor – Jim Miller, MCPF

The specialty of needleart framing can become a significant contributor of sales and profit for your custom framing business. Needle artists are loyal repeat customers for framers who offer a complete range of high quality framing options for their textiles. In this class, you’ll learn how to properly mount and frame all types of needleart, from the hobbyist’s counted cross-stitch to Great Grandma’s fragile heirloom sampler. This session focuses on all of the unique considerations of needleart framing, including frame design, pricing, mounting techniques (fundamental through advanced), and preservation issues


*Sunday night social event is not included with VIP or One Day passes.  This optional event requires a ticket, which includes bus to the venue, bowling fees, shoe rentals, and snacks that will be served. If you wish to attend, please include this in your shopping cart selection.
