Coinciding with the launch of Bluethumb Photography, a curated online gallery for Australian fine art photographers, Fragments Shored Against the Ruins considers waste as an aesthetic phenomenon. Here, waste points to a kind of loss, a void, something obsolete. In the last few years, Australia has seen several photography galleries close their doors. With the loss of these generative spaces, we also stand to lose part of the history and identity unique to these creative communities. How can we revive, sustain, and expand photography in Australia, if physical spaces are dwindling?

Bluethumb’s new online photography gallery provides an invaluable platform to unite talented artists with avid collectors. Responding to the difficulty of securing gallery representation in Australia, Bluethumb Photography supports select fine art photographers to exhibit and sell their work online, connecting them to an eager international audience. Bluethumb’s mission is to connect artists with collectors and also to celebrate the richness of Australian photography, helping to promote its standing as some of the best in the world.

Fragments Shored Against the Ruins is the first in a series of pop-up photography exhibitions to be held at Bluethumb's studio space in Collingwood, Melbourne.
