Event description

Description

The 2018 FPZA Speaker Series begins with John November, Esq. Mr. November will provide details about the recent settlement with the City of Jacksonville that will revolutionize Duval County’s urban forestry practices and create enhanced government transparency. John will also discuss how the planning community may be able to utilize a recently completed satellite survey of Duval County’s tree canopy.

This recently completed survey delivers an easy-to-use interactive online visualization and prioritization tool that will allow planning professionals to view, plan, and grow our City’s tree canopy. The survey’s visualization tools will help planning professionals to assist in the identification of “hot spots” where tree plantings can be focused based on environmental, health, and socio-economic priorities. Together, using these emerging technologies, our community can effectively plant at least $20 million worth of trees from the City’s Tree Mitigation Trust Funds throughout Jacksonville in upcoming years.

About our Speaker: John was born and raised in Atlantic Beach and graduated from the University of Florida Magna Cum Laude and then received his JD from University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. In addition to being Executive Director and General Counsel for the Public Trust Environmental Legal Institute of Florida, John practices personal injury, real estate, probate, and nonprofit law. Commonly known as the "Public Trust," our organization pursues legal means, including litigation if necessary, to protect and preserve the public lands, natural resources, and waters of Northeast Florida.
