Event description

Description

Join John Reade, an experienced brewer and researcher of local brewing history. His talk will explore pilgrims’ journeys through Fife in the Late Middle Ages, with an emphasis on the production and consumption of food and drink consumed by various sections of society at that time.

Following his retirement, John turned his brewing hobby into a second career, project managing the construction and fit out of Eden Brewery, St Andrews. He went on to establish and operate an 18th century-style brewery (Abbot Brew House) in the grounds of Abbot House, Dunfermline, where his brews won various awards, brewing to historic recipes and utilising pre-industrial, hand-crafted brewing techniques. Following Abbot’s House closure, he has set up and operates a small microbrewery & museum in Markinch, which, co-incidentally lies directly adjacent to The Fife Pilgrim Way. He has a strong interest in social history and is a keen walker.

This event is suitable for over 16's. The venue is fully accessible.

This event is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
