About this event
Every fall, on the first Saturday of October, Foxfire hosts the Foxfire Mountaineer Festival—a one-day celebration of the rich traditions of Southern Appalachia, featuring music from regional performers and demonstrations of historic crafts, such as blacksmithing, woodworking, soapmaking, and more. This family-friendly event includes all manner of traditional games and puzzles for young and old alike, from sack races to a cross-cut sawing competition. The Festival honors the people of Southern Appalachia, represented at the event by some of the very individuals who have allowed their stories to be shared with the world through the pages of The Foxfire Magazine and The Foxfire Book series. Regular admission is $5 per person with children 5 and under free. All proceeds go to Foxfire and are critical to supporting our mission of preserving and sharing the culture of the mountains.
