Event description

Description

Join Fourth Coast Ensemble with pianist Mark Bilyeu for a recital exploring American history and culture at Newberry Library's beautiful Ruggles Hall.

Ticket includes early evening concert performance by Fourth Coast Ensemble with guest pianist, and catered artist reception to follow. Experience American vocal chamber music in one of Chicago's most acoustically and visually beautiful performance spaces.

Fourth Coast Ensemble’s 2017-18 Season Winter concert, Americana, explores our nation’s cultural identity through art song. The program opens with quintessential American folk song settings, followed by contemporary art song focused on American natural landscapes, and a set celebrating the poetry of African-American poets from the past 150 years. An uplifting evening, this concert will reaffirm the power of music to document our past and guide us toward a more perfect union.

6:00-7:00 PM - Concert

7:00-8:00 PM - Catered Artist Reception

Minneapolis-based pianist and Source Song Festival co-founder, Mark Bilyeu, returns to perform with Fourth Coast Ensemble for the second time.

This event is made possible through generous sponsorship from Steven Wood & Kathleen Arthur.
