Fourth Annual Vegan Chili Cookoff
Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (EST)
Gearing up for the Super Bowl? Put an altogether different twist on your chili and use tofu, tempeh, seitan, vegetables and/or beans. Get inspired, sample chili, show off your prowess (with at least one-gallon/four quarts of chili) and win prizes (to be determined)! We have an all-star lineup of judges: perennial favorite Colonel De, of Colonel De’s Gourmet Spices and Herbs; Julie Francis, chef/owner of Nectar Restaurant; Renee Schuler chef/owner of eatwell café and takeaway; and Mark Frommeyer, co-owner of Blue Oven Bakery.
Want to enter? Good/bad news is cook-off is full! Want to taste? $10 per person by 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 or $15 at the door. Kids under 10 are free. Drinks, including coffee and craft beer, are separate. Beer, provided by MadTree Brewing and Rhinegeist, is extra with portion of proceeds going to Gabriel’s Place food ministry, a high-profile redevelopment project in the effort to revive Avondale, which was recently shut down indefinitely because of vandalism and theft.
Two-night weekend stay at Peregrine Nest Cabin, off-grid cabin in Red River Gorge Geological Area. $150 value
