Description

The Asia-Pacific region has played a prominent role in world events in 2018, with the Olympics in PyeongChang, the Trump-Kim summit, and the U.S.- China trade war. SWAN is very pleased to focus this year's Evening with SAIS Women Leaders on the Asia-Pacific region and is thrilled to be hosted by the Embassy of Australia! Our fourth annual signature event brings together an outstanding cadre of SAIS alumnae experts on the Asia Pacific region, including America's highest diplomat on Asia over the past year and a half, two of Politico's top 10 experts on China, and GE's former team lead on policy and advocacy for the Trans Pacific Partnership! You don't want to miss this opportunity to learn about Asia-Pacific security and trade issues from our SAIS alumnae experts, as well as celebrate the 75th anniversary of SAIS. The panel will also share their experiences and keys to success as prominent women leaders. Panelists include:

Susan Thornton '91, former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs;

Bonnie S. Glaser '82, senior adviser for Asia and the director of the China Power Project at CSIS;

Orit Frenkel '88, CEO of Frenkel Strategies and formerly with GE and USTR;

Ambassador Katrina Cooper, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Australia and our host.

Our panel will be moderated by Michele Kelemen '93, Correspondent, Diplomacy, Foreign Desk at NPR.

A networking reception will be held before and after the panel discussion, so that you can make better connections with fellow SAIS women! The reception will feature primarily Asian-style heavy hors d'oeuvres, as well as Australian wine and beer.

This event is for SAIS Alumni only, though Alumni can bring one guest. Ticket cost: $45 by November 4; (early bird special); $60 after November 4. You or your organization can also help make our event even better by becoming a sponsor! Your sponsorship includes a ticket to the event. To become a sponsor, click here.

A photo ID is required to enter the Embassy and advance registration is required. For U.S. Government employees with any questions about visiting an Embassy, please contact your agency's security office or swandchub@gmail.com for suggested guidance.
