Event description

Description

The fourth Annual Broadway and Ballet HERO Awards will feature 16 stunning performances from stars of the Broadway and Ballet worlds, performing together on one stage. This year we will be honoring:

  • The Ballet HERO Award, which acknowledges the work of ABT principal and international ballet star James Whiteside.

  • The Broadway HERO Award will be awarded to Broadway star and legend, Rachelle Rak.

  • The John Adams HERO award will be awarded to Michael Campayno, star of "Wicked" for Best Broadway Debut 2016 to 2017.

  • The Partnership HERO award, which goes to the JED Foundation for providing teens and young adults with the skills and support needed to grow into healthy striving adults.

Performers in the 2017 show include Olympic Gold Medalist in Gymnastics Icarus-Ioannis Melissanidis as well as performers from the Broadway casts of "Chicago", "A Bronx Tale", "An American in Paris", "Anastasia", "Jersey Boys", "Aladdin", "Frozen", "Wicked" and "The Radio City Christmas Spectacular" as well as leading dancers from ballet companies including the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), the New York City Ballet, Boston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Ballet West, and Pace University. Broadway and Ballet will also include performances from awardees, James Whiteside, Rachelle Rak and Michael Campayno. A special performance from The Boy Band Project will also be presented.

The 2017 Broadway and Ballet HERO Awards program will support HERO’s ongoing efforts to:

  • Promote and continue to expand resources for newly diagnosed and people living with HIV/AIDS on two HERO websites - HIVhero.org and HEROnews.org;

  • Promote the activities of HERO partners in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS; including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids, The Actors Fund, GMHC, The LGBTQ Center and many more!

  • Celebrate individuals and organizations that go above and beyond fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS and/or assisting people living with the virus.

  • Attend and report the latest HIV related news from around the world and share free video content with our partners.

Each performer is graciously donating their personal time and resources. The program will include world premiere dance pieces set to a variety of musical genres, with leading Broadway vocalists accompanying each piece. While the artists are primarily from the Broadway and ballet worlds, the works they create for this program will range from traditional to modern and clearly reflect New York City’s racial, ethnic, and sexual diversity.

The event will be hosted by Television Journalist and Brand Manager of Barry’s Boot Camp, Matty Maggiacomo.

The show will take place on October 16th, at 8pm, at Stage 48. Limited tickets will be available at the door. HERO is a 100% volunteer organization; every dollar raised goes to helping to stop spread HIV and help those who are affected. To find out more about HERO check out our website at hivhero.org. If you cannot attend, please consider making a tax deductible donation at http://hivhero.org/participate/
