Event description

Description

The pace for this hike won't be terribly fast, but we should try to get back below treeline around noon to avoid lightning risks. If it starts looking dark and stormy before we make it to the summit, we will turn back. Unfortunately, part of climbing fourteeners is “holding it with an open hand” so to speak.

If you have never climbed a fourteener before:

  • Bring plenty of water (at least 48oz)

  • Bring plenty of snacks or a small lunch to keep your energy up all day. I've seen people bring Subway sandwiches to eat on the peak. Just be ready to pack out whatever you pack in.

  • Be prepared for any kind of weather: wind, rain, heat, cold. If you don't have convertible hiking pants, you can always wear basketball shorts under long pants and just shed the long pants if you get too hot (that's what I used to do).

If you want to carpool, please let us know and we'll make arrangements. We plan to drive up the night before and car camp, but if this is not feasible for you, others may be willing to carpool with you the morning of the hike.
