The Foundations Program 2019

Lifelong Faith Formation for the 21st Century

The one-year Foundations Program provides leaders with the essential knowledge, practices, and skills for promoting lifelong faith growth and discipleship in the church community, at home, in age groups, and online. Leaders will design and implement a plan for vital and vibrant lifelong faith formation.

The Foundations Program includes three interdependent parts. Each part is 10 weeks in length; new segments begin in January, April, and September of one calendar year.

Each part includes three live, online presentations, seven self-paced online learning sessions, an online community, practical activities and resources, one required book, and a project that demonstrates the leader's application of the knowledge, practices, and skills. (The cost for the book is additional.)

The fee for the entire three-part Foundations Program is $750.

Required: Access to high-speed internet and a computer with audio and a video camera to utilize the ZOOM video conferencing platform. Online presentations are also recorded for later viewing.

Part One - Reimagining Faith Formation for the 21st Century (January-March)
Instructor: Leif Kehrwald - Parish Life Coordinator, Parish Pastoral Administrator at St. Charles Catholic Church in Portland, OR; Former member of the Vibrant Faith Leadership Team. (M.A. Pastoral Ministry, Regis University)
Part 1 presents the vision and practices for the five elements of the new faith forming ecology which forms the foundation for developing a vibrant faith forming church in the 21st century.

Part Two - Designing Faith Formation for the 21st Century (April-June)
Instructor: Jim Merhaut - Director, Coaching to Connect; Author, Trainer, Coach; Vibrant Faith Associate. (M.S. Religious Education, Duquesne University)
Part 2 focuses on designing and implementing a lifelong faith formation plan to promote faith maturing from childhood through adulthood. Discover models and practices for becoming intentionally intergenerational, and learn how to design intergenerational strategies, programs, and activities.

Live Presentations on April 9, May 14 and June 18 at 12 noon Eastern Time (90 minutes each)

Part Three - Leading Faith Formation in the 21st Century (September-November)
Instructor: Von Clemans - Consultant and Instructor; former Associate Pastor for Adult Education, Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC; Vibrant Faith Associate. (D.Ed.Min. Educational Ministry, Columbia Theological Seminary)
Part 3 guides leaders in developing the capacity to lead faith formation in the 21st century.
