Dear nonprofit leaders,

The City of Brooklyn Park is pleased to invite you to a free Foundations of Grant Writing workshop. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn about applying for grants!

Please join us on Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Dinner will begin at 6:00pm, and the program will start at 6:15pm. The workshop will be held at Brooklyn Park City Hall inside the City Council Chambers.

  • How to put together a grant proposal that effectively tells your organization’s story
  • Where to look for grants
  • How to approach a foundation or other funder
  • How to submit a grant proposal

Who should come?

  • Nonprofit board members and staff—we encourage you to bring multiple people from your organization
  • Anyone from your organization that wants to develop grant writing skills and expand their professional network

Presenters

Tessa Wetjen

Program Officer

Tessa Wetjen is a Program Officer with Otto Bremer. She has a Master’s of Public Affairs from the University of Minnesota and has successfully raised over $2 million dollars from grant writing. In addition to her current work as a program officer for the Otto Bremer Trust, she also teaches the grant writing course for the University of St. Thomas Executive Education program. Tessa has written requests for proposals for government and foundations as well as sat on review panels. She was a grant writer for The Salvation Army, and led grant writing as the director of a small non-profit and a program manager for a small public health NGO.


Beth Becker

Director of Grants & Foundation Relations

Beth Becker is a Director Grants and Foundation Relations with the YMCA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English, and attended Bethel University and the University of Minnesota. She has more than 17 years’ experience as a successful grant writer which includes a broad array of funders (federal, state, county, corporate, foundation and individual donors). Beth has had success building long-term relationships resulting in six-figure program and special project gifts. In her role as Director of Grants and Foundation Relations at the Y, she provides high level leadership to program leaders to advance sustainable fundraising plans and develop successful grant proposals in order to secure competitive funding from foundations/corporations, government, United Way, Y-USA and other sources.
