Project Presence Social Emotional Learning Foundations Training for Elementary School Teachers

Mindfulness - Yoga and Movement - Integrative Nutrition - Restorative Justice- Compassion-based learning- Integrative Whole Child Development

The Project Presence foundations training for social emotional learning for Elementary Teachers (K-5) is intended to support and enhance teacher social emotional resources and classroom strategies to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.

Teachers are trained in small group cohorts of 12-15 individuals through a multi-modal approach which includes didactic presentation, role play, close reading, reflective writing, and experiential learning. These trainings will provide teachers with easy to integrate strategies and structures to promote integrative whole child development.

These trainings are guided by practices derived from the fields of humanistic psychology, mind-body medicine, somatic psychology, positive psychology, narrative medicine, whole-person education pedagogies, social-emotional learning in education, interpersonal neurobiology, integrative nutrition, motivational interviewing, health and wellness coaching.

Specific areas of child development include: affect, memory and learning, strategies for supporting student emotion regulation, responsible decision making, critical thinking, self-and social awareness, and other important prosocial behaviors such as empathy and compassion. This work enables teachers to more fully partner with students to overcome obstacles and barriers in the classroom that impact student academic growth.

The trainings bridge theory and practice by providing concrete methods for bringing social emotional learning approaches such as mindfulness, movement-based learning, restorative justice, and compassion-based practices into your life, classroom, and school.

Special group rates available.

Overall Participant Feedback

  • This was the best workshop I ever attended in my fifteen years working as a teacher. The workshops offered strategies and specific skill instruction that will greatly assist my professional and personal practices.
  • Very valuable training. Working with Project Presence allowed me to look at my own actions, behaviors, beliefs and reflect how they have an impact on how I relate to others. The SEL practices are being incorporated into my school. I am seeing students practice meditation strategies on a daily basis.
  • Bringing mindfulness and wellness practices is important for helping teachers connect with and nurture themselves so that they can form better relationships with their students; this can only serve to enhance the learning process for our students. Bringing these practices to schools has the potential for transforming a school's climate for the better...happy, healthy positive teachers=happy, healthy positive students!

What have teachers gained from the training?

  • Improved student focus, attentiveness, behaviors, and grades
  • Increased student buy-in and participation
  • Improved personal and classroom relationships
  • Improved classroom community
  • Increased gratitude and citizenship
  • Increased sense of personal well-being
