Our Focus is HOW WE CAN End Homelessness!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER! Donald W. Burnes, PhD., Founder/Senior Advisor/Author - Burnes Center on Poverty and Homelessness, Graduate School of Social Work, University of Denver.

FREE ADMISSION! EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Students, private and business sectors, NonProfits, faith-base groups, professionals, and Visitors throughout Southwest Colorado are WELCOME!

Dr. Burnes will give a very brief history on Homelessness; criminalization impacts; Housing First policy and where we are after its first ten years; the current status of Poverty & Homelessness; the causes and challenges; and, to focus on How We Can! End Homelessness. Guest Speakers will present perspectives on Homelessness (La Plata County and City of Durango). Innovative emergency/temporary/permanent shelter will be introduced by Fort Lewis College Department of Engineering Professor Don May. Humanitarian House International Architect Stuart Ohlson will present the HHi House shelter.

  • Evidence-based solutions will be discussed
  • Video Documentary on Hawaii’s Homelessness with 7,000-8,000 people experiencing homelessness and living on the streets and in unsanctioned public properties
  • Breakout Groups: A. Special Populations (Youth, Veterans, Mentally Ill, ADA, Seniors); B. What Does Home Mean: Tent Cities or Tiny Home Villages”
