Description

Join Formlabs for an exciting talk about SLA 3D printing in making architectural models

Even in the age of CGI, architectural models remain an essential part of any architectural project. Well before any construction begins, a scale model - a physical representation of a structure - is built to study aspects of an architectural design or to communicate design ideas, and illustrate communication with the environment of the planned project.

Architectural model making has been revolutionized by 3D printing in general and aided by the Form 2 desktop SLA 3D printer.

Join us to learn first hand about using SLA 3D printing in making models for architecture from our guest speaker and a leading expert in the field, Mr. Neil Merryweather, Senior Associate Partner and Head of Modelmaking at PLP Architecture.

Together with Mr. Merryweather we'll discover how to use the Form 2 to simply and rapidly to produce precise, high-resolution printed objects, that bring architectural models to life

Neil Merryweather

Neil Merryweather is a Senior Associate Partner and Head of Modelmaking at PLP Architecture in London.

Neil has had a 30-year career in architectural modelmaking although his BA degree is in Stage Design. In
the late eighties and early nineties he made models for such names as Richard Rogers, Norman Foster,

modelmaking department. In 2009 he was invited to join the newly-forming PLP Architecture and created
the modelmaking team there.

In the late nineties, Neil was one of the earliest explorers of Rapid Prototyping and 3D printing in
architectural model making, and he has been using and refining these technologies ever since.
Neil’s model shop at PLP Architecture has 3D printers of various types and from the outset, 3D printing has been a vital part of his team’s toolbox.

Neil has taught modelmaking at the Architectural Association in London and lectures from time to time at
various modelmaking and design courses around the UK, as well as delivering presentations at various
industry events.

FAQs

Do I need to know anything about the topic to attend?

A basic knowledge of digital modeling and 3D printing would be helpful but is certainly not essential. You'll be able to learn and explore the topic even without knowing the first thing about it.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The easiest way to get to our offices is by taking the M4 tram to Hufelandstr station. Parking spots are available on the street, and we have a bike rack.

Feel free to write to Yonatan at yonatan@formlabs.com

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Nope.

Can I bring a friend?

You can even bring more than one. However, as space is limited, please try to let us know in advance.
