Event description

Description

We all know Bernie Mac as a phenomenal comedian, but did you know that he was also a kinship provider? Bernie helped raise his sister's three children, and used his experieces as inspiration when creating and starring in his own television series, The Bernie Mac Show.

Come to our kinship-focused movie night and explore what we can learn form Bernie and other kinship providers. This session is designed for grandparents and others who are raising the children of relatives. We will explore the changing roles in relationships, parenting in this modern day, trauma, and stressors, and how to find necessary resources. Don't miss this FREE opportunity to learn, network, and make new friends. Light dinner served to all at 6:00pm; movies start at 6:30. The event concludes by 8:30pm.

While caregivers meet, next door children will enjoy a G-rated movie and snacks, supervised by skilled child care attendants. Caregivers, parents and interested others will screen clips from the show and discuss how kinship care relationships are portrayed. Vist our website at www.FormedFamiliesForward.org for more information or call 703-539-2904.

Open to all parents, caregives and professionals, though content will address issues of particular relevance to foster, adoptive, and kinship families. FFF offers training and support to formed families raising children and youth with special needs.

NOTE: When registering online, information for children and youth will be collected following screens for adult participants.
