Event description

Description

Recently retired prosecutor Paul Greenwood will draw upon his 22 years experience of prosecuting serious felony elder abuse crimes to demonstrate how success in the court room can only be achieved through a teamwork approach. Paul will provide examples of effective collaborative efforts and the importance of early detection, reporting and investigation. He will discuss red flags of abuse and neglect and also point to common misconceptions that often hinder or prevent appropriate investigations and prosecutions. In particular Greenwood will focus on case examples of elder financial exploitation and will offer suggestions on how to resist the typical response that “it is just a civil matter.

Objectives:

a. To encourage participation in a multi disciplinary elder prevention team

b. To identify markers and indicators that abuse or neglect is occurring

c. To identify certain misconceptions that can hinder successful prosecution

of elder abuse

d. To learn how an allegation of elder financial exploitation can so often be

mislabeled as “just a civil matter.”
