Forgotten Dreams: The Ramifications of REM Sleep Deprivation

Speaker: Dr. Rubin Naiman

Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 12:00-1:30PM

Hotel Tucson City Center - Please note that this is a change from our recent luncheons at the Mountain Oyster Club.

REM sleep loss is an unrecognized public health issue that requires both clinical and cultural attention. This presentation reviews research suggesting millions of people are unknowingly experiencing chronic REM sleep loss because of patterns of substance and medication use, primary sleep disorders and lifestyle practices. It discusses steps that health professionals and consumers can take to promote healthy REM sleep/dreaming including strategies to promote personal dreaming, recommendations for clinical practices, and public health education initiatives.

This intermediate level presentation will help participants

1. Describe the importance of REM sleep and dreaming in mental and physical health.

2. Identify substances, medications and lifestyle factors that commonly impair REM sleep.

3. Discuss strategies for restoring REM sleep and dreaming for individual and public health.

Who should attend?

Psychologists, school psychologists, behavioral health practitioners, health care professionals, and any other interested parties.
