Event description

Description

Ever heard of “forest bathing”, “shinrin-yoku’, or “forest therapy”? In the early 1980’s, the Japanese coined the term “shinrin-yoku”, which literally translates to “forest bathing”. Since the 80s, a great deal of research has been done in Japan and in other parts of the world, indicating that forest therapy practices can offer a wide spectrum of health benefits to humans, ranging from increased creativity and attention, to improved mental health, memory, and immune system functioning, as well as the lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol.

For me, the typical outcome of a forest therapy walk is a sense of grounding and relaxation - a sort of natural high.

Forest therapy guided walks are different from what most of us are used to doing in nature. Unlike hiking, we will cover very little ground - less than 3 kilometers over 2.5-3 hours. And our focus won’t be on learning about plants or other life we see along the way; rather, we’ll be spending time experiencing ways in which we may develop and/or deepen our connections with the more-the-human world. We’ll do this while broadening our sensory awareness through participation in a series of “invitations” that I will be offering to the group.

All walks will take place in Stanley Park. In order to offer spots along the trail that distance us from other park users, this route is unfortunately not accessible to folks who use wheelchairs; however, it is my goal to soon offer a route that is accessible.

Email krouendag@gmail.com if you have any questions or to sign up. There are limitied spot available.

*** You are welcome to offer a donation at the end of the walk.

*** More details will be sent out prior to the walk for those who have signed up.
