Event description
A mix of topics to introduce how forests work, how we can better protect them, and some practical approaches to forest management.

About this Event

Thinning and Forest Health workshop. We'll take you out in the woods to talk about forest management considerations on your own land, or if you're just interested in learning more about how our local forests function. You'll learn practical strategies to increase forest health, help forests adapt to a changing climate, and reduce fire risk.

Plus, this is just an excuse to spend time in the woods. And who wouldn't want to do that?

Taught by Malloree Weinheimer, Forester, Chickadee Forestry LLC

More Information:

Where? Classes will be offered in either Chimacum or Marrowstone Island, WA

Why? Whether you own forest land or not, we're surrounded by forests and this class is intended to give you a deeper understanding and appreciation for them.

Why here? Most of the forest land we live on was used for growing trees commercially at some point and as a result is generally overstocked and even-aged, unlike what a naturally occurring forest would look like. With rising temperatures, increasing droughts and susceptibility to other pests and diseases we need to pay attention to the state of our forests and be proactive about ensuring their long term health.
