Event description
Explore the benefits of silent Forest Bathing mediation on a guided walk of Olana's historic carriage roads.

About this Event

Forest Bathing (or shinrin-yoku) is a guided silent meditative practice to revitalize our connection to the natural world. Developed in Japan in the 1980's practitioners recognized how much healthier people where when they had access to green spaces. They studied and tracked the real physical benefits we get from spending as little as 20 minutes a day in the natural world. These benefits include decreased stress and anxiety, feeling more content, and better ability to focus. The proven measurable benefits have started a movement of doctors who write nature prescriptions called nature pills.

Join us for a 3-hour workshop to fully experience these benefits. We will use our physical sensations of seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and tasting to start tapping into our innate sense of being part of the natural world. You will be guided on a walk of Frederic Church's historic carriage lake roads paired with some gentle yoga poses and short meditation. At the end we will gather to sample a refreshing, healthy tea made from herbs found on the property.

No experience needed, all levels encouraged. Please let us know of any mobility needs you may have. Wear comfortable shoes that are easy to take off. Dress for the weather(layers)-cloths that are easy to move in.

Meet at the Wagon House Education Center at 9:00 AM

Ann Marie Costanza

Ann Marie came to yoga after experiencing a debilitating illness, in 2008. After regaining her physical strength she stayed with the practice because of the underlying spirituality of yoga. She completed her 200hr teacher certification at Satya, in Rhinebeck, in 2011 and then continued her training in 2016, at Sadhana, in Hudson, earning her 500hr certification. She has been teaching in various settings with a variety of students since 2011, including seniors and people with intellectual disabilities.

She is heavily influenced by the natural world around us. Being a native of Greene County she incorporates the stability of the Catskill Mountains with the ebb and flow of the Hudson River into each practice. She is also influenced by her practice of Tibet Buddhist meditation. When she first heard of the practice of Forest Bathing out of Japan 4 years ago, it seemed like a natural fit. It combines the meditation practices along with the body awareness while staying grounded in the natural world. She has been leading workshops in Forest Bathing for 2 years.

Caitlin Greene

Caitlin is a new resident of Catskill! The emphases of her practice is on creating an open space for all levels and all people. Caitlin's style incorporates slow aligned movement and mindfulness centered around an easy breath. She has practiced yoga in and around NYC for the past nine years and has completed training at the Laughing Lotus Yoga Center in Chelsea as well as The Giving Room in Southold. Caitlin honors the grace, wisdom, and authenticity of nature - as well as that of her teachers and students who provide unending guidance.
