Event description

Description

When criminal investigators use forensics at a crime scene they are attempting to work out what has happened and who was involved after the crime has been committed and the perpetrators have moved on. In Forensic Playwork we are doing much the same thing except this time we are attempting to work out who has been playing, at what, where and how even after their playing has stopped and the players are long gone.

Once children are heavily engaged in a Play Frame and the fast pace of Play Flow sets in, their playing can become very fast, secretive and difficult to understand through observation alone. Stopping them from playing to ask a question can be counterproductive and yet gaining an understanding of their play is an essential step in learning how best we can support children in their independent playing.

That’s where Forensic Playwork comes in. In short, Forensic Playwork is about applying investigative techniques to learn the secrets of the world of playing after that playing has stopped. Some of this is very obvious, other parts less so. Some of it, frankly, is just a bit weird! But either way It's a complete eye opener and will allow you to explore your playspace with new eyes.
