Clapham Film Unit and Lambeth Archives present a Brixton documentary :
For What we are about to Lose
Part One : Carlton Mansions
In this beautifully shot and lovingly made documentary we meet the people who called Carlton Mansions home from 1955 to 2014.
Artists, writers, poets and revolutionaries set up camp in this run down building, repaired it, loved it and reluctantly had to leave. We hear their stories.
For 123 years this grand old lady of Brixton has inspired creativity, housed the homeless and many cats. Finally she opens her doors to the future and lets us see into her past.
Part Two - Somerleyton Road
Using beautiful archive footage, this documentary carries us back in time to Somerleyton Road in the 50s 60s and 70s. We hear the precious memories of people who were there . Made in collaboration with writer artist and curator Michael McMillan, remembering the blues, shabeens and clubs.
