For Pete's Sake, Be Empowered is a complimentary half-day event hosted by For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation on Martin Luther King Day, January 15, 2018. The event will take place in the Diamond Club at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Our hope is to bring community members together on this day of service and empower them to become advocates for the adult cancer patient and caregiver population by providing the tips and tools necessary to support our mission through volunteerism and to understand the emotional trauma associated with the cancer journey in a younger population.

The day will began with a keynote speaker who will inspire our audience to be the positive change they wish to see in their world, and to lead the way for others with kindness and compassion. Following the keynote speaker, the group will choose breakout sessions to attend based on their area of interest. Please see below for the day's itinerary!

Keynote Speakers:

“Best Friend” of the Phillie Phanatic TOM BURGOYNE:

Tom has been performing as the Phillie Phanatic for twenty-nine years. A St. Joseph’s Prep and Drexel University graduate, Tom first donned the Phanatic costume in 1989 after answering an anonymous want-ad in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Tom, a certifiable sports nut, won over a panel of judges with his audition in the Phanatic costume and his collection of newspaper clippings of him on top of statues during Phillies and 76ers victory parades.

Tom’s new book, Pheel the Love – How the Most Powerful Force in the Universe Builds Great Companies, shows how leaders can use Phanatic-style loving principles to generate customer and employee loyalty. Tom has co-authored two other books about Phillies baseball – More Than Beards, Bellies and Biceps – The Story of the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies (and the Phillie Phanatic, Too) and Movin’ On Up. He also has written fifteen children’s books, chronicling the adventures of the Phillie Phanatic and started a reading and literacy program in the Philadelphia area called “Be A Phanatic About Reading”. In addition, Tom has written and directed four children’s videos, Channel Surfin’ Phanatic, The Phillie Phanatic Goes Hollywood, Time Travelin’ Phanatic and The Phillie Phanatic’s One-Man Band.

Tom has been a familiar face on the local and national interviewing circuit appearing frequently on TV and radio programs as the “Best Friend of the Phanatic”. He has been a successful speaker in the Delaware Valley for over twenty years, entertaining audiences with stories about his “friend” the Phanatic, and motivating and encouraging his audiences to PHEEL THE LOVE and reach for the stars.

Leadership Guru & Culture Expert EVAN MARCUS:

Evan has spent the last 25 years working hand-in-hand with leaders, helping them to clarify their strategy, build powerful teams and overcome barriers to success.
