Event description

Description

Join Institute for the Future for a conversation and screening of the documentary "Closer Than We Think" (2017). This film tells the story of Arthur Radebaugh, a futurist illustrator and the creator of the comic strip "Closer Than We Think." From 1957 (Sputnik) to 1963 (the assassination of JFK) Radebaugh dazzled readers each week with his predictions for the future. Robot Driving, Push-Button Education, and Space Monkey Colonies are a few of Radebaugh's predictions. This documentary film explores futurism and what it means to be a futurist from the perspectives of the past, the present, and what's to come in the future.

After the film, our panel will include Brett Ryan Bonowicz, director of "Closer Than We Think" and "The Perfect 46." Kirk Citron, a TED speaker and the editor of The Long News, Aubrey de Grey, the chief science officer of the SENS Research Institute and the author of "Ending Aging," and Rick Guidice, a painter that created some of the most dazzling space settlement artwork for NASA Ames Research Center & Stanford University in the 1970's.
