Foodtober16: City Rooftop Farm Tour OCT 15
Event Information
Description
Urban agriculture is growing in NYC. Join YAANY and Yale Blue Green to see what autumn looks like on an urban farm in this guided tour of beautiful Brooklyn Grange. Learn about what's happening on the farm in October – from the farmers, to the honeybees, to the plants themselves. Sip a cappuccino while strolling through fall crops, saving seeds from our organic heirloom vegetables, and learning about the farm's many uses, including as a learning laboratory for City Growers. After a special Q & A session with City Growers education staff, guests will be able to shop at the Brooklyn Grange farm stand, or even get their hands dirty by helping out during the farm's open volunteer hours.
Our hosts for the morning are:
Cara Chard, Director of City Growers
Courtney Epton, Director of Education, City Growers
Ellice Lee, Board Chair of City Growers
Frank Raffaele, Owner, Coffeed
Our Itinerary:
10:30 - 11:00: Meet in Coffeed for coffee, bagels and pastry (compliments of Coffeed)
11:00 - Cara and Courtney bring the group up to the farm. Tour begins.
11:40 - Visit the market and "ask the farmer" q & a session with Courtney
12:00 - Goodbye! Shop at the market / head down to Coffeed for lunch / volunteer at Brooklyn Grange (dress appropriately!)
