Description

Calling all lovers of writing, good food, and good food writing! Pen Parentis invites you to join in an extravagant end-of-year Literary Salon planned for December, featuring five wonderful writers from the food and wine industry to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Pen Parentis Literary Salons. This extraordinary Foodie Salon takes place on Tuesday, December 18th, 2018, in a departure from the usual schedule – this time on the third Tuesday of the month - at the elegant Andaz Wall Street (75 Wall at Water Street) with their annual Holiday Author Mingle beginning at 7:00 pm. Featuring:

  • Former editor of the New Yorker, cartoonist and illustrator John Donohue, now working on a three-book deal drawing all the restaurants in New York, London, and Paris.
  • Andrew Friedman who has written or edited more than 25 cookbooks, memoirs, and other projects with some of America’s finest and most well-known chefs; he is featured in the documentary The Last Magnificent. “Toqueland” is his famous blog about the lives of chefs.
  • Robert Simonson who has written about cocktails, spirits, bars and bartenders for the New York Times since 2000. He regularly writes for the Food and Travel sections of the Times and is contributing editor and columnist at Punch.
  • Ava Chin who is an author and the former Urban Forager columnist for the New York Times. Her book "Eating Wildly: Foraging for Life, Love, and the Perfect Meal" won many prizes including 1st Prize in the MFK Fisher Book Awards.
  • Nina Planck, an author and farmers’ market entrepreneur. She created the wildly popular London Farmers’ Markets and is the creator of the cookbook series, "Real Food."

While these writers feed your spirit, Andaz Wall Street’s head chef, Pietro Consorti, will provide three courses of signature tastings to thirty lucky ticket holders (preorder of tickets is required). The recently appointed Executive Chef of Andaz Wall Street, Chef Consorti's history with Hyatt spans 10 years. He has held two Michelin-starred posts in Milan, Italy. Consorti hails from Tuscany, a region of Italy rich in food traditions and will use his rich heritage and experiences to create unique locally-infused dishes that showcase his talents.

These special $45 tasting tickets go on sale December 1, but the event itself is free and open to the general public with complimentary wine for all attending (a suggested donation of $10 per person is warmly welcome). All raised funds go to Pen Parentis, a 501c3 literary nonprofit to pay for author honoraria, fund the annual fellowship, and keep the organization running.

For ten years, Pen Parentis has been welcoming avid readers as well as novice and professional writers to its Pen Parentis Literary Salons, a series of free readings open to the public that aim to shatter the stereotype of parent-writer by presenting the vast diversity of work penned by parents. Each author will do a short reading, discuss their writing life and process in a Q&A, and mingle with the audience over drinks. Books will be available for purchase for signings, or bring your own! Every author presented by Pen Parentis is a successful writer who is also a parent.

Pen Parentis, Ltd, is a New York City-based 501c3 nonprofit literary organization that provides critical resources to working writers to help them stay on creative track after starting a family.
