Event description

Description

The North River Commission and the Albany Park Chamber of Commerce invite you to enjoy a weekend of walking tours, food tours, history events, neighborhood trivia, and more highlighting the rich history and culture of Albany Park. Organized and led by community partners, this event is also proudly sponsored by SSA #60.

It is easy to see the impact history has had on architecture within Chicago, but you can also taste the history of our city in the many local cuisines of Albany Park. Past residents and immigrants have shaped both the demographic and food landscape, especially in this highly diverse neighborhood. Join us on a food quest to taste signature bites at local Albany Park restaurants, and speak with the owners or chefs to discover the full history of their business and their business’s cuisine. This tour is curated by Albany Park Neighbors' project called Albany Park Dines, and lead by local chef, Jairo Lopez, of Tortuga's Latin Kitchen. Food samples will be of a signature item in small portions - be prepared to be plenty full afterwards, however!

2019 Restaurants stops:
Kim's Home Cooking
Subo Filipino Kitchen
Nighthawk Chicago (serving Bru)
Tortuga's Latin Kitchen
El Siglo
and Noon-O-Kebab!

Please note: No vegetarian options. Allergens may be present. Very limited tickets are available! Tickets are $25 per person. The food tour will be photographed by the official event photographer, Hayward Suggs.

North River Commission is the nonprofit community and economic development corporation for the northwest side of Chicago, from the Chicago River to Cicero and Addison to Devon. Founded in 1962 by concerned residents and neighborhood institutions, NRC unites civic associations, businesses, schools, institutions and places of worship to improve the quality of life in our community by creating affordable housing, quality education, arts & cultural endeavors, open spaces, and thriving neighborhood businesses.

Albany Park Neighbors (Albany Park Dines) strives to bring together residents with businesses, officials, and relevant agencies and develop practical, positive, and productive ways to improve our area for all who live, play, learn, and do business here.

This event is offered as part of Tastes & Tours of Albany Park 2019, organized by the North River Commission and the Albany Park Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by SSA#60.
