Each year the Detroit Food Policy Council recognizes those in our community who work in the local food system, and exemplify the values of Justice, Respect, Integrity, Inclusion and Transparency that guide our work. Now in its third year, this year the award has a new name. The Food Power Awards – formerly the Golden Beet Awards – is our annual fundraiser; and proceeds from the event will fund DFPC’s work in education, engagement, research, policy and youth programming.

The evening will include a strolling dinner, award ceremony, raffle and live music. By purchasing a ticket for the Food Power Awards you will also receive a one year membership to the Friends of the Detroit Food Policy Council.

Date: Thursday October 19, 2017

Time: 6pm-8pm

Location: Trinosophes 1464 Gratiot Avenue

Awards will be given in the categories of Individual, Youth, Business, Nonprofit Organization, and Community Choice. Voting will be open on our website September 5 - September 25.


Nominees Include

Nonprofit Organization: Black Mothers Breast Feeding Association, Brightmoor Artisans Collective, Motion Coalition, Peace Tree Parks, Restaurants Opportunites Centers United.

Youth: Shashua Rushdan, Carla Underwood

For Profit Business: Good Cakes and Bakes, Farmers Hand, Russell Street Deli, Under the Rainbow Catering, Detroit Vegan Soul

Individual: Alison Heeres, Anne Ginne, James Blessman, Jeff Row, Kevin Kay, Kristine Hahn, Lottie Spady.

Community Choice Award: This is your chance to nominate a food system hero that represents the values of Justice, Respect, Integrity, Inclusion and Justice that guide our work.
