About this event
Calling all local food lovers! For one night only, Wild Fig Studio is proud to be screening an original Hamilton docuseries, Food Is Me.
Food Is Me, hosted by food writer and media personality Tara O'Brady, is an intimate, vulnerable, and often funny exploration of the people, food, and drink behind five of Hamilton’s most noteworthy breweries, bakeries, and restaurants: Dear Grain, Tomah, The Himalya, Maria’s Tortas Jalisco, and Grain & Grit. Food Is Me will be released on-demand on Bell Fibe TV1 in the spring of 2023.
Tickets include a generous tasting from each of the 5 restaurants (see attached menu) and, of course, a screening of the show. Hear their stories, experience their incredible food, and meet the faces shaping the Hamilton food scene.
Important Information:
Early bird pricing: $33 + HST/person, until March 17th
Standard pricing: $38 + HST/person, from March 18th to March 27th
Ticket sales close on Monday, March 27th to allow time for each restaurant to prepare for the event.
For groups of 15 or more, discounts may be available. Please contact foodismeseries (at) gmail.com for more information.
Tasting Menu (text only)
Tomah
Hailing from a multi-generational cheesemaking family in Syria, Tomah will be serving their handcrafted Turkmani cheese alongside a variety of dips and bites: tangy house-made labneh (a strained Arabic-style yogurt made with local organic milk), muttabel (a smoky roasted eggplant dip with hints of lemon and tahini), velvety chickpea hummus, and ample fresh pita for dipping!
Dear Grain
Dear Grain will offer a variety of their most popular sourdough breads alongside some daily inspiration from their bakers, including their country loaf, multigrain porridge loaf, cheese loaf, ciabatta, baguettes, rolls, and focaccia. All breads will be fresh and warm from the oven, served with whipped butter and infused oils. And for a touch of sweetness, they will offer some of their sourdough tea cake.
Marias Tortas Jalisco
Maria’s Tortas Jalisco will be serving their crispy chicken and veggie flautas with a trio of Maria's signature salsas: salsa roja, salsa verde, and fresh pico de gallo. For the flautas, corn tortillas are filled with tender pulled chicken or potatoes, then rolled and fried to crispy perfection. A bright and flavourful street corn salad, known as esquites, makes the perfect pairing with a mix of charred corn-off-the-cob, fresh lime juice, mayo, Cotija cheese and a special Mexican spice blend.
The Himalya
Himalya’s wildly popular veggie samosas: crisp, flaky pastry pockets filled with potatoes, peas, and a thoughtful blend of earthy, warming spices. For contrasting sweetness, they’re accompanied by a vibrant tamarind chutney. And if you know them for their desserts, The Himalya won't leave you hanging. Each ticket-holder will be sent home with a sample box of traditional Indian sweets.
