Food Incentives & Food Prescription Programs

April 25, 2018

About The Workshop:

Food incentives and food prescription programs are strategies that may influence healthy food choices and increase the consumption and purchase of fruits and vegetables among low-income consumers and those suffering from chronic health conditions. This 3.5-hour workshop brings awareness and provides practical knowledge that food incentives and food prescription programs can be public health interventions to increase food access, encourage healthy eating, combat chronic disease, and promote healthy living in our communities. The workshop provides ideas, tools and resources that can be used to build or enhance your food incentive or prescription program. Participants learn about various incentive ideas and food prescription models. Interactive discussions and group exercises will address programming issues to be aware of, strategies to increase participation rates, basic methods to fund programming and provide general recommendations on enhancing your program. This workshop is open to any Texas organization.

Who Should Attend:

About The Workshop Series

The Hunger Free Texans Workshop Series is a program that addresses community service gaps by providing information and education on select food access and community nutrition topics that are important to Texas communities. Workshops provide content which helps supplement organizations’ knowledge on certain topics. Information gleaned helps organizations build, develop or enhance their current or future programming. The workshop series also brings awareness and encourages programming in service deserts, where there is limited to no programming. The longer length of the workshops provides dedicated time to learn as much information as possible on a certain topic. Participants also hear from best practices currently operating similar programs and each workshop incorporates networking time with other peer participants who may be at the same stages of building or enhancing their programs. The interactive workshops are 3 hours in length, include lunch, workshop materials, and start later in the morning to allow participants to drive in and return home the same day of the workshop. Workshops are open to any school, community or government organization across the state.
