Rosehill Farm is located within Montecito Heights, Los Angeles. The farm was created by owner Joanna Bassi in 2017. After working in the entertainment industry for some time she decided to leave her career and work towards something related to the environment and community. She decided the site of the farm would be located on the unused eroding hillside in her backyard. After hand pulling weeds for months, it soon became apparent that this plot of land had been a dumping ground dating back to the 20’s. Sheets of metal, dish sets, and motorcycle parts were all unearthed, carried up the hill and discarded. With the help of family and friends, switchback, retaining walls, and raised beds were all built transforming this wasted piece of land into something that now produces high quality organic vegetables.

Food Forward fights hunger and prevents food waste by rescuing fresh surplus produce, connecting this abundance with people in need and inspiring others to do the same. Food Forward will recover over 29 million pounds of surplus fruits and vegetables this year, and donate this bounty to hunger relief organizations across Southern California. The organization's Foodsteader event series exists to provide the community with fun and empowering workshops that help demystify the culinary world. Proceeds of this series support Food Forward in its fight against food waste and food insecurity.
