Description

Join us for the opening of our new exhibition, Food Bowl Farming, by Hawkesbury Mayor, Clr Mary Lyons-Buckett.

The exhibition traces the cultural history of food production in the area since the first white settlers planted crops along the river in 1794. Their farms and farming techniques, a legacy of British farming traditions, saved the infant colony from starvation, and reshaped and redefined the landscape for more than a hundred years.

In the 200 years that followed, right down to the present day, farmers from China and other parts of Asia, as well as those from continental Europe, have all played a part, diversifying not just the Hawkesbury landscape but the Australian palate as well. FREE – all welcome. Light refreshments and music.

If you can't make it to the opening, drop in on Saturday 20 May for our Tenth Anniversary Open Day, with kids activities, face painting, a gardening walk-through, vintage tractor display, food, music and historical entertainment for the whole family. FREE - all welcome, food available.
