Food and Fitness Fair 2013
Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (PDT)
New Orleans, LA
The Food and Fitness Fair will be hosted during Food Day week. Food Day is a nationwide celebration originally launched by Center of Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) promoting healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food.
Main goals of our local event include educating the community about the benefits of being physically active, having a balanced diet and decreasing the intake of sugary beverages. Our event will take place right next to our Farmers Market where on a weekly basis we offer our community a consistent supply of fresh, locally sourced produce.
Main events at the fair include a community run/ walk, a youth led smoothie competition, a build your own herb garden workshop, fitness classes, children’s activities, cooking demonstrations, health screenings by Daughters of Charity, and launch of the Sankofa Mobile Market.
When & Where
We work to build bridges for healthier communities and spur development by addressing social and public health disparities, providing equitable resources to vulnerable low-income populations, and working to empower youth through education and leadership training. Through preventive health work, Sankofa CDC thrives to increase food access and eliminate the severe health problems associated with it.
