Description

UC San Diego's Stein Institute for Research on Aging and Center for Healthy Aging invite you to an informative and free public lecture!

Follow Your Gut: The Enormous Impact of Tiny Microbes

with Rob Knight, PhD

January 25th, 2017

Lecture: 5:30 to 7:00 PM

Garren Auditorium, UC San Diego

(Garren Auditorium is located within the Biomedical Science Building at UC San Diego)

Tiny microbes living in the gut may have a tremendous impact on the aging process and many diseases. The past few years has brought a scientific flurry of information about how crucial your microflora is to your health.

Please join us for the January lecture and learn more from the prominent microbiome scientist Rob Knight, a professor of biology at UC San Diego and the cofounder of the American Gut Project. His lab’s research involves the development of laboratory and computational techniques to characterize the microbiomes of humans, animals, and the environment.

Knight completed a BSc in biochemistry at the University of Otago and then a PhD at Princeton University on the origin and evolu- tion of the genetic code. Knight gave a TED Talk in 2014 on the role microbes play in our health. Later, this idea was expanded into the book Follow Your Gut: The Enormous Impact of Tiny Microbes, written with science journalist Brendan Buhler and published by Simon & Schuster.
