Event description

Description

Follow-up Workshop Group to the "White Allyship” and “European American Helping Professionals" workshops.

TO REGISTER: YOU NEED TO HAVE ATTENDED ONE OF THESE WORKSHOPS: "...White Allyship..." "...LGBTQPAI+ White Ally..." or "When European American Helping Professionals Work with Black, Indigenous and People of Color: Mixing Good Intentions, Good Practices and White Privilege" (see below)

Dear lovely humans -

(1) Following are some resources that you may find helpful:

~ 10 Books About Race To Read Instead Of Asking A Person Of Color To Explain Things To You https://www.bustle.com/p/10-books-about-race-to-read-instead-of-asking-a-person-of-color-to-explain-things-to-you-8548796

~ True Solidarity: Moving Past Privilege Guilt https://everydayfeminism.com/2014/03/moving-past-privilege-guilt/

~ Your White Savior Complex is detrimental to my development http://tmsruge.com/2016/03/21/your-white-savior-complex-is-detrimental-to-my-development/

(2) In this follow-up workshop we will:

~Follow-up on the goals we set to make concrete changes in our personal and professional lives to address racial bias and white privilege

~Discuss and roleplay concrete options of what to say when a co-worker or partner, family member, neighbor, etc.) says something racist and discuss why it is so hard to do.

~Deepen our discussions about our unconscious racial bias and how to continue to transform it within our minds, bodies and hearts

~Continue learning, sharing and supporting each other to be active racial justice allies

(3) Participants will receive updated extensive handouts of definitions, concepts and online and hard copy resources

Format: There will be ample opportunity for interaction to share and problem-solve.

I will hold these group workshops with up to 8 participants and as low as 5.

Fee: $30 for two hour meeting. $15 adjusted rate. No one turned away for inability to pay. CEU forms will be available.

Go to Eventbrite to register for one of these prerequisite workshops:

When European American Helping Professionals Help BIPOC: Mixing Good Intentions, Good Practice and White Privilege

White Privilege and White Allyship: Ally is a Noun

Being an Active Racial Ally to Our LGBTQPAI2S+ BIPOC Communities. Ally is a Verb!

A few notes:

(1) I am only opening these workshop groups to people who have already attended the longer workshop.

(2) You may or may not know any of the other folks in the workshop you choose to attend. Know, though, that you all will be sharing basically the same understanding and context - and therefore share a similar starting point. (Over the past two years I do update these workshops but the primary messages are the same.).

(3) I will again be giving all proceeds to the MN Indian Women's Resource Center - located in Minneapolis.

I continue to feel humbled, inspired and grateful for the workshop participants. Whether or not I see any of you again - in this follow-up workshop - or somewhere else in our fine world - take care of yourself and forever carry-on.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Warmest regards,

Irene
