Event description
Folk & Forage is a micro-festival and weekend campout celebrating folk music and fungi.

About this event

Join us for the 2nd Folk & Forage!

Nightly musical performances and daily mushroom foraging. Pickin' shrooms and pickin' tunes!

This fall's Folk & Forage will be nestled between Horse Creek and the beautiful blue waters of the McKenzie River at the incredible Picaflores Old Growth Sanctuary.

Indigenous Folk Art inspires the magic of Picaflores with treasures from Egypt, Turkey, Peru, the Amazon Jungle, Mexico, Guatemala and Indonesia scattered throughout the woodland property. Nestled in the wild and natural wonders of the Oregon Cascades rainforest, it’s one of the greener places on Mother Earth. To top it all off, this incredible property has an outdoor kitchen, 5 person sauna, a beautiful bath/shower house, AND a Balé Begong ( Balinese Dream Gazebo) overlooking Horse Creek. It’s one of those magical corners of the world that you won’t want to miss.

There is also a dreamy cabin available for rent for those wanting to Folk & Forage in luxury.

Your ticket includes:

- 6 musical performances!

- Camping!

-Access to the sauna, yurt, shower house, and more!

- Workshops!

- Foraging Competition!

- Morning Coffee from Trailhead Coffee Roasters!

- Mega Potluck!

Friendly competitions, hiking, mushroom foraging, wild rivers, waterfalls, awards ceremony, happy hours, LIVE MUSIC, bonfires, art and hopefully, lots of wild mushrooms! There is a lot of exciting stuff packed into this weekend. Please make sure to read and take in all of this information. Let’s be prepared to have a good time with everything an Oregon autumn can throw at us!

Food:

Friday is Potluck Night. Please bring a dish big enough to share. It doesn’t have to feed 30 people, but please bring a hearty enough dish to feed 5-10 campers. If everyone brings a dish, we should have plenty of food. Feel free to bring a happy hour dish, appetizer or cocktail to share.

Saturday Dinner we’re still working on what this may be. At our spring event, we hosted a taco night that was included in your ticket price. That may be the case here, but we are still working out the details on what exactly will be offered.

Coffee will be available courtesy of Trailhead Coffee Roasters on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Half & half will be provided but please bring any other creamer or sugar you like.

Dishes Please bring your own dishes, utensils, and cups. We will have a 3 sink dish system set up so you can wash your dishes.

To summarize: you are responsible for bringing your own breakfasts, lunches, snacks and a potluck dish. You also need to bring your own dishes and utensils. Morning coffee is provided.

Cars:

We ask that you carpool as much as possible. The fewer cars we have at the site, the better. Please limit one car per household and less if possible!

Dogs:

No Dogs. Please find a sitter for your doggo and leave them at home.

Things to Do:

Forage! This is a foraging event after all. Foraging suggestions, competition and other information can be found below.

Hike! There are many recreation opportunities on the McKenzie River, Blue River Reservoir, Cougar Reservoir, Clear Lake, Sahalie Falls, River Rafting, Kayaking, Canoeing, Water Skiing, Fishing, Fly Fishing. Plus HOT SPRINGS at Cougar Hot Springs. Not to mention, the woods should be ripe for mushroom foraging.

Workshops! Nothing is set in stone yet, but there will definitely be fun and educational workshops. Announcement coming soon.

Watch Live Music! The level of talent that we have appearing at our first event is astounding and I’m super excited to share these artists.

Play Music! Bring an instrument and jam with friends.

Look at Art! I will have a display of larger-than-life giant morels, boletes and chanterelle mushrooms scattered around camp as well. Also, as I mentioned, Picaflores is covered in incredible indigenous art from all over the world. It’s hidden in every nook and cranny of the forest, so be on the lookout!

Whatever the heck you want to! Take a nap, read a book, set up a hammock, take a cold plunge in the river, ride a bike down a forest road, cook a meal, play Kubb, go fishing, or just relax! Whatever you need to do.

(If you do stay, plan to pack a dinner for yourself)

Camp Rules

- No firearms or fireworks

- No littering: Pack it in, Pack it out!

- No hard drugs

- Please keep your conversations away from the stage during the musical performances.

Foraging:

The McKenzie Wilderness is ripe with wild edible mushrooms. This forest is full of old dirt roads, hiking trails and roadside pull outs. Pick a direction and area and try out different terrain, explore elevation changes, micro-climates and ecosystems.

Never been foraging before? No problem! Please read this handy guide for best practices for responsible and sustainable mushroom picking. It’s also smart to get to know your fellow campers. There are plenty of expert mushroom foragers among us. Ask if you can join in on their search. We will also have a large topo map of the area hanging in camp.

Foraging Competition:

Who doesn’t love a friendly little competition? Especially one with prizes! Golden mushroom medals and prize baskets will be awarded to the winners.

Categories include:

- Largest Mushroom

- Most Mushrooms

- Strangest Looking Mushroom
